They had one child Susan born 3 March 1884. Susan was only three years old when Alice died.
Temperament
Of all his children Alice was most alike in temperament to her father.
She shared his passions, tastes and interests, who worked with him and for him.
On her untimely death her stepmother Fanny (born Phelps) wrote she was – “the centre of all our lives, the bond of union.”
