Child Joseph (1718–1786)
Joseph Phelps was a Cooper of Dursley and what little we know about him has been learnt from his Will written just a few days before he died, aged 50. His wife had predeceased him, leaving just one child, also named Joseph, and still, at 19, a minor. (Although he in turn had been only ten years old when his father died, he nevertheless seems to have left a fairly substantial estate.)
Joseph bequeathed all and singular his Leasehold Messuages Land Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever, Situate and being in the Parishes of Dursley or Cam or elsewhere in the said County of Gloucester, to his son, as well as all and singular his Goods Chattels and personal Estate whatsoever. He appointed his loving Friends John Cambridge of Hampton and Nicholas Neale of Dursley, Clothiers, as guardians of the young Joseph and executors of his estate during his son's minority.
