Medal
This is the medal of James for being coxswain of the Brighstone Lifeboat situated at Brighstone Grange Station. The boat of the time was called Rescue. James served two terms as coxswain from 1860 to 1880.

The helmsman and skipper of a lifeboat.
Coxswain is pronounced ‘KOK-sən.’
Memorial Plaque
Memorial plaque in St Mary the Virgin Church, Brighstone.
The first Life Boat placed on this Station by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution was sent here in 1860. It was presented to the Institution by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club and was named The "RESCUE"
In 1866 that Life Boat was replaced by another bearing the same name after having saved 138 lives from the following vessels:
