(Wedding was on 30th May 1939)
REV W R BUCKETT MARRIED
The Rev. W R Buckett, chaplain of the old Mariners’ Church, Gloucester, was married to Miss Alice Irene Denly, who was sister tutor at the Gloucester Royal Infirmary.
It was a quiet wedding and was attended only by intimate friends and some members of the congregation of the Mariners’ Church. The ceremony was conducted at Christ Church, by Canon F Billett, vicar of Maisemore who is a close friend of W. R. Buckett. It was a plain service without music or hymns.
But Canon Billett gave an address.
The bride, who has been at the Infirmary for twelve years, where Mr Buckett is Chaplain, was given away by her uncle. She wore a two piece costume, with hat to match. There were no bridesmaids and Mr J Denly, her brother, was best man.
A reception was held at Brunner’s Café (was in Clarence Street, GLOUCESTER) and afterwards Mr and Mrs Buckett went for a short holiday on the Isle of Wight.
Mr Buckett is leaving shortly to take up an appointment at St James Bermondsey, London.
Witnesses: Emma Alice Denly was Rene’s mother. Frederick William Denly was an uncle.
Did the daughters of Bob Buckett attend? We don’t know.

Rene’s death
Entry in the England & Wales, National Probate Calendar
Rene died as a result of some form of cancer. Newcomen Road was where Bob’s childhood family used to live - so either the house was still owned by the Buckett family, or they were staying with old friends. The fresh IOW sea air would have been seen as a restorative, however Rene died there on 1 June 1947.
She was buried in Edmondsham Church graveyard on 5 June 1947.
